The name before Northwind

The hotel near Kharar ISBT traded under a different name until 2023. It is a small fact, and an easy one to leave off a website.

The lit entrance at Northwind after dark

Northwind traded as Signum Cityscapes until 2023.

It is a small fact and an easy one to leave out, which is why it is here. A hotel that changes its name is not hiding anything. It is a building that was one thing and became another, and somebody who stayed in it under the old name should be able to find it under the new one.

What it is now is a working hotel about a kilometre from the centre of Kharar and eighteen from Chandigarh airport, built for travel with a schedule attached. The rooms are modern and unfussy — air conditioning, a desk, a flat-screen with satellite channels, a kettle and a minibar. There is a restaurant and a bar downstairs, a coffee shop, and a terrace that is a better place to sit than most hotels this size manage. Airport transfers can be arranged. Parking is free and on site.

The sign over the door is the newest thing about the place. The road, the building and the eighteen kilometres to the airport are not.
